Dear Friends of Jim Newsom and Outward Focused Ministries,
It is with a very heavy heart that I am writing to you on behalf of Jim and Diane and the ministry. Jim went on to his eternal reward on Tuesday, June 25. After fighting valiantly against pulmonary fibrosis, and surrounded by family and friends singing and praying, he went on to be with his Lord Jesus who he loved so deeply and served so faithfully.
If you are anything like me, Jim deeply affected your life for the better. Jim was a wonderful husband, father, pastor, evangelist, but perhaps best of all, he was a friend. He touched the lives of countless numbers of people and led many to the Lord. He started ministries, planted churches, discipled young and old alike, ministered in prisons, schools and churches.
At this challenging time I would like to ask you to help us in a few ways. First, would you please pray for Diane and her family as they grieve during this time? They know where Jim is and that they will see him again, so they do not grieve as those who have no hope. They have hope! Even so, this is a difficult time. Second, would you continue to support this ministry as you have so generously in the past? We intend to keep the ministry going and flourishing through Jim’s books, articles, and audio and video sermons. At the ministry, we regularly get testimonies of how God is using Jim’s ministry to transform, heal, and equip many and we want that to continue.
Finally, we are planning a Celebration of Life Service for Jim on August 10, 2024 at New Life Church in Louisville, Kentucky. Please make plans to join us as we honor Jim’s legacy, worship the Lord, share testimonies of changed lives, and support the family. More details will follow as they become available.
I have no doubt that when Jim met his Lord Jesus face to face on Tuesday afternoon, the words he heard Jesus say were “Well done, good and faithful servant! You fought the good fight, you finished the course, you kept the faith!” (Matthew 25:21; 2 Timothy 4:7-8)

Welcome to our website, my name is Jim Newsom and I’ve been involved with the ministry of “equipping churches to become outward focused” for almost forty years, and in those years, I have seen thousands of people either come to know the Lord, or come to know Him better. I’ve seen lives changed, families put back together, and young people freed from drugs and alcohol. And in the midst of all this, I have seen myself change. I have learned to give more, care more, sacrifice more, and to serve more. Through this ministry, not only are others better, but I am better. Once you see what the Gospel and His Grace can do in the lives of others, you will do anything to see that it continues. The more I see what needs to be done, the more I want to pay whatever the cost is, to see it done again and again.
